For all my meat lovers, now is the time to switch up your favourite cut of meat which may be a steak, or chicken fillets, to the delicious cut of meat that is gammon steak!

In my opinion, gammon steaks are incredibly underrated and are a super versatile cut of meat that can be consumed, in lots of different ways, with lots of different sides & sauces…

More about gammon steaks:

The gammon steak is a prime cut from the hind quarter of a pig’s leg!

After separation from the animal, the gammon is cleaned and cured by either salting, brining or smoking…

Traditionally served with pineapple rings, vegetables, eggs or even potatoes.

Let’s get straight into the list.

Our top 5 ways to cook gammon steak:

  1. Honey and Mustard Gammon steak
  2. Grilled Gammon Steaks with Leek and Mushroom Sauce
  3. Pea and Ham Cream Cheese Risotto
  4. Gammon with Pineapple Salsa
  5. Sticky 5-spice salt gammon steak

1. Honey and Mustard Gammon Steak

Honey and Mustard Gammon Steak

Who knew that cooking gammon on a frying pan over medium heat along with fried eggs and a honey mustard glaze would make for such an iconic meal?

One of my personal favourite ways to cook gammon steaks is definitely when it is dressed in any sort of glaze, due to it being a quite dry meat sometimes the extra liquid really transforms this meat!

2. Grilled Gammon Steaks with Leek and Mushroom Sauce

For a slightly more healthy option compared to the previous dish, served with asparagus and rice grilled gammon steak is one of the leanest ways to prepare it due to there being no calorific sauces or marinades…

Despite the lack of flavours, this naturally salty meat is still utterly delicious and if you haven’t already tried it, you are missing out!

3. Pea and Ham Cream Cheese Rissoto

If you aren’t a fan of the traditionally sliced gammon, why not try pea and ham cream cheese risotto?

As the gammon joint is cut up into miniature cubes, its juice and flavours have full permission to leak into the creamy mash potatoes making for a salty, flavour-packed dish, which requires a lot less cooking time than a traditional gammon dish…

4. Gammon with Pineapple Salsa

Usually, if cooked incorrectly, gammon steak can come across as a rather bland meat, so why not switch it up with a sweet and spicy pineapple salsa to go with it…

Think about it, it’s already common knowledge that gammon steak goes amazingly with pineapple rings, so why not turn it into a salsa?

5. Sticky 5-Spice Salt Gammon Steak

Sticky 5-Spice Salt Gammon Steak

Once again switching it up from the traditional gammon steak recipes, we have a 5-spice salt gammon steak! In my opinion, this is one of the nicest recipes i have ever tried, due to the fact it has everything!

Flavour, texture, it’s all there. So what are you waiting for?

Points to conclude

Overlooked by most, in my opinion, gammon AKA ham is a very underrated meat.

It can be cooked in many ways, as well as its ability to taste great when paired with weird food combinations such as eggs and even pineapple rings!
